MOVING IN TO STILLNESS

Nature is in a deep sleep, most of the northern hemisphere is blanketed in snow, the trees bare, the wintery skies, and the shorter days. Stillness is profound as we near the winter solstice. The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the seasonal movement of the sun’s path appears to come to a stop before reversing direction. It is a time to pause and reflect; a time to cultivate vitality and take extra care to nurture ourselves. Stillness appears motionless not because it isn't moving, but because it's spinning at full speed. Stillness is not the absence of energy, life, or movement. Stillness is dynamic. It is unconflicted movement, life in harmony with itself. It can be experienced when you are wholeheartedly present with whatever you are doing. As you move into the depths of stillness, subtle and powerful changes will become apparent in your life. Nature provides a wonderful backdrop for us during this season, tapping into the season of stillness, when on the surface all is quite and yet underground, preparations are occurring, energy is building – ready for a flourish of new life when spring’s warmth arrives.
